A thick swarm of dark clouds swarmed the never ending dark abyss known as the sky. The clouds appeared almost furious as it released a cascade of harsh rain onto the land, splashing mud into the sky as an amazing rate. Quick bolts of lightning would flash into the sky at alarming rates, illuminating the houses and buildings that were being built or were still standing. A howling wind would occasionally blow through the area, almost making this weather a severe thunderstorm. The strange part of this was that someone was laughing in utter glee at this experience. A Deino pranced in the inch deep puddles, as excited squeals of insane laugher or cackles exited her mouth. Despite being drenched to the bone, and the water being terrifyingly cold she really didn't seem to mind at all. Her companion, a Mareep, hid under the safety of a porch while her fluffy wool fur was soaking wet almost laying flat against her small body. If on close inspection you could see a course of writhing blue sparks of electricity twist in her body.
"Terezi you should really get out of the rain."The sheep bleated anxiously, concern coating her voice as she watched another spark of lightning snap in the sky. Her voice was hidden behind the loud roar of the thunder, and the Deino let out a shrill giggle. The sheep narrowed her almond eyes seeing how her voice was covered once again. It seemed as the weather wasn't on her side at this moment. She sighed ready to call out again, but her partner had excitedly cut her off with a wave of water hitting her face. She let out a hasty screech while her partner snickered all the same.
"Come on Ara, no need to get your wool in a bunch. Hehehe." The Deino snickered with her green tongue sticking out of her mouth. A twisted smile curled on her lips revealing the sharp canines in her mouth. Terezi tipped her head to the side hearing the loud sparks of lightning sizzle through her partner's skin in fury. "Hehehe, no need to get mad it's just water." She stated humorously listening to the snaps cease to crackle.
Ara face contorted into something that looked like a half frown half smile. She was displeased by getting wet once more, but quite elated to see her partner in such a chipper mood. "I'm not mad, Tz. I'm trying to fry the water before my fur gets tangled from the water." Ara explained lamely and she could tell her partner didn't believe her that well. Seeing how the Deino tipped her head in an 'are-you-serious' expression.
The sheep Pokémon bleated anxiously once morea very bad nervous habit of hersas her partner climbed the stairs to the porch. She gave an indigenous sniff into the air while the toothy grin found its way on her face. "So this is the place? I definitely smell someone living in here still!" Terezi announced sniffing more, and closer to the door.
"Rezzy don't do that"Ara tried to warn but the dinosaur grinned, her action cutting her friend off. Terezi knocked her hefty paw against the door in a rather loud pounding nature. "Come on mister Ninetales open up! I can smell you at the door!" Terezi yelled happily while she kept pounding on the door. As if on her cue of the loud call, the door swung open immediately. A blast of warmth air as well as a light from the inside of the house lit the area around them. Standing at the base of the door stood a fairly large fox that appeared to be grinning at them. His nine large tails behind him flickered in the air in greeting or happiness as the tips of each tail was faded in a pale gray. The scent of ink waved into the air as the body of the fox was an unusual shade of pale gray. Not a beautiful cream color or the unnerving shiny coating of a silvery-blue coat. It was something in between making it a nasty and inky coat of pale gray and black.
The fox chuckled looking at the knocker. Terezi scrunched her nose at the wafting smell of inka smell she distaste quite well. Ara on the other hand smiled up shyly at the fox which just caused him to grin far wider, exposing the white canines well.
"Come in, come in! My goodness, come in! I can't believe you've all been waiting outside in the rain all this time! You could have knocked earlier, you know!" The Ninetales stated rather humorously and his voice picked up in a higher pitch. Almost as if he was trying to mask some other emotion behind it. He didn't bother to wait for any introductions and quickly with his tails beckoned the two Pokémon inside his humble home. A smile fitted his face as he walked on ahead and he couldn't help but chuckle once he heard the door slam on cue, and a startled squeal left the sheep's mouth.
"Hehehe, says the guy who was standing at the door waiting for us to knock." Terezi shot in with a dastardly smirk on her face. She stood rather close to Ara mainly because of the fact she was in a new place and couldn't get around with her blindness, so she left her partner to lead the way. Ara brushed against her partner, "Tz, now's not the time." She warned only to get a scowl out of her partner.
"It is not my fault. But he was standing right there watching us like a creepy-assed freak." The dinosaur continued, not minding that she was speaking her cryptic mind at all. She sniffed the air noticing how the creature in front of her was bristling with aggravation, and instantly her mood brightened immensely.
The fox hissed lowly under his breath. Doing his best to ignore the comment the Deino was throwing at him. "My name is Callahan, or Calla, for short. I'm the guild registrar, you know. And I'm quite good at it!" Callahan continued doing his best to mask his annoyance with the Pokémon behind him. He led them into a room were the nice smell of burning wood from the fireplace managed to calm him down. Twisting around he looked at the two Pokémon who both steadily pulled into a stop a few steps behind him. Noticing the water dripping off of their fur and the mud coating all around them, only made him a bit unsteady.
"Oh, please allow me to take your belongings; they're all wet! I'll just hang them in front of the fireplace to dray as we go over the formalities." Callahan said lightly. His tails reached over to grab the mangy things that were ruining his wooded floor off of the Pokémon. Yet the sad part is that his plan was ruined by how a pair of razor sharp teeth snapped into a few of his tails. He howled in pain, throwing a hasty glare at the Deino who had a harsh grip on his tail.
Terezi growled under her breath while she unlatched her teeth in the mangy fur. It taste awful and now she had the taste of ink in her mouth. She was about to shot worthless profanity at the fox Pokémon who was busy nursing a few of his tailsshe got a few of them in one bitewhen her partner cut her off. Ara looked wearily between the glaring and growling Pokémon, quite unsure how to calm them down.
"Sorry for that Callahan. The accessories are something we rather keep on, and not remove. And I'm sure Tz is sorry for biting you, it's just one of her defense mechanisms." Ara explained softly while snapping her tail at her friend's backside. Terezi only smirked lightly trying to remove the taste of ink from her mouth. "Hehehe, sorry for bruising your tails Inky." She stated bluntly with a toothy grin on her face.
The fox snorted under his breath, directing them to their seats. It was directly in front of the fireplace as the fox sat in a lavish chair with a table in front of him. The table itself was decorated in ink bottles and stacks of papers filled everywhere on the table. The seats that the two girls sat on was a simple sofa, and he only scrunched his nose noticing how his couch would once again get wet because of these pesky guests. Coughing under his breath he directed a gaze toward the two females.
"It's fine, I'll live. But we should start on the paperwork! You sure have a lot of that, so don't worry one bit." He started happily with a gentle smile caressing on his lips.
Terezi leaned toward her partner, a small scowl fixing her lips. "Why does he sound so happy?" She asked in a hasty whisper. Slightly scowling mainly because of how the mood switched so quickly from anger to happiness. It was just like their friend, and it bugged her greatly knowing this. Ara shrugged her shoulders, but knowing how her partner couldn't read small signs like this she went for a simple, "I don't know."
"You do have the forms that we've mailed you filled out, correct? That always makes things go much quicker here." Callahan asked watching the two Pokémon carefully.
Ara smiled suddenly twisting her backwards and nipping her wet wool around. It was the main reason why her fur sparked through the whole thunderstorm. To keep the rain from ruining the forms; pulling her head back with the form she gently laid it on the table with a soft smile. "There you go." Ara stated sweetly trying to push back all rudeness that came from her partner. Her smile though only faltered once she saw the foxes open the envelope with a startled look.
"What's this? These forms are soaking wetand dear Arceus what is this?" He asked, appalled at the sight of the paper work. He gently rested the paper work noticing the shock look the sheep was sending them, and pushed it towards her.
The sheep's blue face became unnaturally rosy. The red color on her cheeks showed the embarrassment seeing the smudge marks everywhere on the paper. She had written the forms in a bright red marker, and she knew it was a great mistake seeing how there were smudges. Almost like someone licked the paper.
Terezi sniffed the papers and grinned at the smell. "Hehehe, sorry there I guess I got carried away by the smell. Ara must have written in my markers!" She stated casually with a happy giggle as she felt calm at the smell of something familiar, and of course the scent of cotton candy that was coming from her partners flushed cheeks. She didn't notice Callahan's burning glare that was sent toward hers or her partner's anxious bleating sounds she was making under her breath.
"No matter, I have spare forms, and all the time in the world. I'm sure you two have no pressing appointments yet, so I'll write down your information. Of course you two will be helping." He grinned lightly, only to have the Mareep smiling lightly at him and the Deino smirking toothily at him. He sighed knowing he was going to regret his little decision later.
"Never mind, all right now; names, please?" He asked quickly running through his rehearsed script. He scrunched his nose knowing somewhere he forgot something from his speech. A tired sigh escaped his mouth while he pulled fresh papers out of the stack and dipping one of his tails in an ink bottle.
"Um I'm Aries Arianna Lovegood but please do call me Ara." Ara stated softly while dipping her head down in a small greeting. Terezi grinned brightly, "Tz or Rezzy."
"Your real name please."
"Hehehe, woops it's Terezi Pyro." Terezi snickered letting her signature giggle escape her mouth in an eerie giggle. The fox frowned remembering a shuppet who had a creepy giggle that matched the Deino's. His face fell for a brief second while he hastily wrote the names down.
"Ahh
um what commonerr, good names you all have! How do you spell them?" Callahan laughed a little too loudly after correcting himself. He bit his lip noticing the slip up but from the looks of it the two didn't mind it.
"A-R-A for me, and for Tz it's T-E-R-E-Z-I." Ara replied lamely before noticing her own mistake also. "Oh wait do you need to know how to spell our last names also."
"Ah that's fine. Those two are simply easy last names. Though that is interesting spellings your names have, are you perhaps foreign? French, perhaps?" He frowned watching the confused looks masking on the two Pokémon's face. "Ah, no forget it, we don't need to strain you with that question ladies. France is just made up here, you know. Often used as Comic relief."
"Hehehe, I think Inky boy is losing it Ara." The Deino said rather loudly making sure the fox Pokémon heard her well enough. Ara couldn't help but to giggle lightly at her friend, but quickly regretted it afterwards at the annoyed look from said fox.
"Moving on, I'm sure you two have an alias you want to go under. I hope it is something rather good! I've been bored by Pokémon insisting to use some names like, "Team Awesome" or anything of that sort. I like to think you would give me something rather ravishing.
"Its Dark Carnival!" Terezi shouted excitedly as a Deino could get. "Hehehe it's perfect if you understand the stuff about us and how we act around each other, Inky!" She sniggered.
"I can see why you want to call yourselves that. I'm sure it's spelled the way it sounds correct?" He asked looking more at Ara who was slowly not ruffling his feathers. The female sheep Pokémon nodded her head lightly, understanding his annoyance a bit. "That's good now for the serious matter. As part of the forms I need to hear a brief back story from you two. If you don't want to repeat anything, then that's fine but I would like to at least get something out of you two. Now which one of you is going to be the leader?"
"That's me." Ara spoke up quietly.
"Great, now Ara how did you come up to the town? Why the sudden interest of joining the guilds? You may tell me anything you need and I promise you no one besides me and your partner will ever hear this tale." Callahan stated lightly, quite grateful to talk to someone sane; the Deino was slowly pushing him on the edge especially how she kept calling him Inky.
"I'm originally born in Alomomola City, but as a lamb we moved a lot. My pa was an archeologist and he liked exploring old tombs and learning everything he could from them. He was always so happy when he came home to see me and mom at home waiting for him. He would always tell me amazing stories about what he saw, and what kind of traps and I was too young at the time, but most of his stories were a ripped off from Indiana Grovyle. But I didn't care I was just always happy to hear these from pa. I was always so happy to see him come home, and Ma was too. But then pa stopped coming home." Ara stated softly her voice slowly lowering by the second.
"I'm sorry."
"It's okay." She said with a gentle smile. "Pa always said to never dwell on the past. It'll just make you even sadder than before. When Pa stopped coming home, mother got worried and once we heard the news. We moved rather quickly. Mom couldn't stay in the same city, so we moved to a village in a forest. It's called Eden I believe. A very prospering village and the people were always so kind. It made mom forget for awhile and it was just us two. I was enrolled into a small school for kids, and I met some great people there. Nothing much happened. I went to school met some really cool people and nice friends. I met Tz when I was ten with her two friends, and we came rather close. Tz is quite funny even though she can't see and has a tendency to giggle and lick things. I came here because being a rescuer gives me the opportunity to be an explorer and I want to make pa proud at what I'm doing in life. I'll continue on, on what he did in his life before he died." Ara responded softly with the small amount of blush coating on her cheeks.
Of course she left some major dire points out of the conversation but it was better than nothing. She was just quite content to come with a story so quickly.
Callahan clicked his tongue, nodding his head. "Quite a sweet story you have there, Ara." He stated lightly with a soft smile. He turned his attention to the frowning Deino who instantly snapped her head at him. In fact he was quite startled that a Pokémon who was blind could meet his gaze as if she knew he was there. He shook his head, "I'm sure you two would look good in the Rouges Guild."
"Oh no, no, no we're joining the Rescuer Guild. Don't mind the name of our team I promised Tz to choose!" Ara explained hastily only to have Callahan wave one of his tails in acknowledgement.
"Oh of course, now Terezi what is your story? I'm sure your leader has done an excellent telling her story so it's now your turn." He stated rather begrudgingly.
"Well Inky, I was born in the mountains up north. My family was great, we often fought other cuz' we're territorial and it's all for the Justice of course! Umm decided to go on an adventure with my friend and enemy, and met Ara halfway became besties for life with her. Came into this town, splashed in some puddles, and licked your front porch it tastes like sandpaper the bad kindand now I'm talking to you." Terezi grinned toothily showing all of her canines at the male fox, and he only scrunched in aggravation.
He wasn't going to bother getting an answer from this psychopath Pokémon. He already had to nurse three tails from her, and a dented door. He really didn't need more things to break because of this loon. "Very well, then! It seems I have all that I need in order to register you two here in our peaceful Tao Village! Now all I need for you two is to look over them and sign your initials at the bottom of the form." Callahan said lightly trying his best to mask the annoyance. He slid the forms toward the two guests while the ink bottle placed between them.

"Now I don't want to keep you two any longer. So please do make your way out of my house. Also if you two have any new members who want to join your teamhave mercy on their soulsplease do send them over." The fox stated rather quickly his nine tails gently beckoning the two Pokémon off his couch, and to the door. He quickly snapped a few of them away once he saw the Deino nearly lunge toward one of them. His scowl deepened making sure to keep his precious tails away from the biting Pokémon.
"I'm sorry for any inconvience we caused, Callahan. I hope you have a nice evening, and we hope to see you soon." Ara announced over her shoulder with a gentle smile. She noticed the scowl on the fox's lips but he managed to curl it around in a tired smile while he stated a farewell to them. A light girly giggle escaped her mouth while her partner threw a farewell also.
"Bye Inky!" The sheep baaed in happiness, redirecting her grinning friends attention for a brief moment. "Come on Tz, we should head over to this Merlot's Castle. That's where the kind Stunky told us earlier, when we bumped into her." Terezi instantly scowled at her friend at that thought of the stunky.
"You mean the girl who jumped on my back, because she thought I was her friend? I mean grubs are cool and stuff, but she was a little pushy and bossy. Not to mention she smelt of that slime you find on grimers." Terezi grumbled scrunching her nose at the smell she didn't want to remember. Ara smiled lightly as her friend went on, with the different do and don'ts about how to smell nice and how to reek.
The sheep looked upwards at the sky. The clouds were no longer tightly compacted together, and instead spread outstill letting a soft rainfall in various placesshowing the gentle dark abyss. Stars accompanied the dark abyss only to have a gentle smile tug her lips. Maybe this change will make her pa quite proud of her, and her new journey.
